Behind the Star Spangle banner...

"The Star-Spangled Banner" Lyrics

The
American flag flies highThe lyrics to "The Star-Spangled Banner" are particularly poignant and meaningful during this time of national mourning and pride. Be sure you and your kids know the words to this anthem that has brought courage and hope to so many during dark times.

Lyrics, by Francis Scott Key:
First Verse
Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watch'd, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air
Gave proof thro' the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say, does that Star-Spangled Banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
Second Verse
On the shore dimly seen, thro' the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected, now shines in the stream;
'Tis the Star-Spangled Banner, Oh long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
Third Verse
And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wash'd out their foul footstep's pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave,
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Fourth Verse
Oh, thus be it ever when free men shall stand
Between their loved homes and the war's desolation!
Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Pow'r that hath made and preserved us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto, "In God is our trust"
And the Star-Spangled Banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

National "Wear Lilly Day"

As I run around town today with my dad I must show off my Lilly. I love my beach pants and have every color polo ever made! And to top off the outfit I'll wear my Mckims. Have not broke them in good yet, the left still hurts my foot, but as my daughter says we must endure pain for beauty.  I would love to have a nice straw hat to keep the heat at bay, but I don't think SC is ready for hats. haha...but it was be nice for our trip to Kiawah. Does Lilly make hats?

A Day to Honor Great Men....

Let me introduce you to the greatest man ever lived. My dad! You may say I am biased but that is ok. In the eyes of a child he is the greatest. We did it all. My father took time with his children. He made sure we knew he loved us. At one point he lived out of town for business but when he was home on the weekend, he was totally with us. We had a community park and we lived there. In the winter we went sledding. I think he got more frost bite than us. In the summer we flew kites and airplanes. We took trips all over the states. When I graduated college, he sent me to Australia and my brother to Japan. Were we spoiled, absolutely.  He said we were going to have life better than him.  I never worked in college. I worked for him in the summer, but because I wanted. And that was to be around daddy.

This year will be a bitter sweet Father's day because my mom just passed away. We are going to try to make this special for daddy, but no one can do like mom!  Daddy may have spoiled us but mom was the woman behind the man! Literally!  On this special day while I honor my day and I am a daddy's girl, I will miss my mom.  I hope our meal is up to her standard.

My husband is an amazing man who I love more today than when I married him. Our fathers set the standard for who we marry, but my husband more than met that standard. He is a man of God. God knew I needed a special man. A man that could care for me and help me through hard times.  My husband is/ was there for such a time as this.  My daughter will never find a man to meet her daddy's standards.  Her daddy has set the bar high.  We honor him today with prayer to God for such a man of wisdom that can look to our future and can take care of us and love us. He chooses us over time with friends and just spoils us trips of Lilly to KOP, takes us shopping and enjoys just us! Life is good in our household.

I hope you all have a wonder Father's Day with the men in your life. God has blessed us all.

Everyday is Lilly day down South!

National Wear Lilly Day

In the South we always wear our Lilly. It is kind of hard not to when all you have is Lilly. We even die our eggs in Lilly without getting any die on us! Amazing...

Of course it helps to have a wonderful store in downtown Greenville that has great sales. Pink Bee on Augusta Road takes care of all our needs. She post on Facebook her sales and tweets upcoming events. Pink Bee

You can also follow her @pinkbeelovers!

What outfit is not complete without the murphy scarf?  So When National Lilly day rolls around on June 21. Yes we will all be wearing Lilly. Even our dog!

Back to Reality...

So I have put up all the Lilly clothes, cleaned the house, and now back to Reality!
Reading!  I am a teacher and this is how I spend my summer. (Yeah)  My school has a competition as to who can read the most minutes.  Well we take this seriously.  I love to read.  I have read 90 minutes in heaven before the trip to PA, during the trip The book of the dead, and now finishing Beach Road.  I find myself often reading too much and becoming part of the book. Of course I love to hear what other people are reading. Let me know if you can recommend a good book. I love to read FBI thrillers.

Back From "Lilly Land" King of Prussia

Even Tatum gets a Lilly surprise...a dog collar! :)

We arrive in KOP on Tuesday and got in line at 3:00. What an experience. We met some great ladies and had fun. This was our first trip, but for others you could tell they had done this many time. They had chair, beach blanket, and baskets of food. Some even had elaborate baskets of cheese, grapes and whine. We watched on group go through 5 bottles of whine in three hours. Now they were a hoot.

We got our numbers 175-175 and we were set, BUT it does not end there. No you have to get up and be in line at 4:00AM the next morning to wait in line again. The sale opens at 5AM! This is where the "fun" begins and the battle wounds are won. Let me tell you...Do NOT be fooled by little old ladies! They can fight with the best of them. I have scratches to prove it. At the sale, you have boxes. People grab for clothes. It was a site to behold. Funny actually to see what would probably be normally "sophisticated" women making fools of themselves. It was quite funny.

The trip was a success. After the day calmed. People sorted through their finds and gave us stuff they did not want. We made friends we some very nice people. Two such ladies took care of my daughter in line and to that I am very grateful.

Equal fun was the mall! We found out KOP was home to the 2nd largest mall and the largest mall on the eastern seaboard. WOW. We had a blast. There Lilly store was huge and had just as good of a sale. Much better shopping condition. haha. It was so nice. The stores were amazing. We were there 5 hours. I would love to fly back to come to the mall. If you are in King of Prussia...go to the mall.

Will we go back again...probably not. That is not my kind of shopping. Our Lilly store in the south...Pink Bee on Augusta Road in Greenville is Amazing. She had the same sales as they did in KOP. Just the as big of selection obviously.

So while we will always LOVE our experience and treasure our new friends, I think for now we will keep shopping Lilly at Pink Bee.

It is ALWAYS is Lilly day...

As we celebrate time together, my daughter and I enjoy our new Lilly outfits. We put dad in a blue vest so he "blend" in with us.

We can turn anything into a time for Lilly...and now we are counting down to our trip to PA for the big warehouse sale!
