New Year, new class, new kids, new partner, new...

Well I think i am finally ready for a time of "new things". I have put it off all summer, but after meet the teacher I am ready. I am excited about my new class. The students were very nice. I don't know what I expected, horns growing out of their heads. ha ha. The parents were very supportive and offered help. I felt blessed. At the end of the evening, I felt like I had a new ministry. I felt this way nine years ago when I left public school to go into christian education. I had that same feeling Thursday night. I had an amazing conversation with one parent that let me know God had a mission for me this year. Several parents let me know how much they appreciated me before the year even began. Three of my students will be a challenge but that is OK. My past experience has prepared me for "such a time as this". God is so good. I can see why I spend time at Cleveland Elementary. I have a student who needs special love. I see why I spent time at Spartanburg Christian Academy. I have a parent who needs that ministry. I also see where my experience at Monanview in Greenville will help me with my Hispanic community. God does have a plan and reveals it in his own time and just revealed a big chunk to me this week. I am truly blessed! Pray for me that I can be an extension of his plan.

Flat Tire!

I wake up this morning to find a flat tire. Not a big deal! I have done this before. I get the air compressor and put air in the tire go to the station to get it plugged and that is where the trouble begins! They must think I am a dumb blond. All I need is a plug. First they tell me that I am going to have to wait two hours...NOT! Then I ask how much they charge. HA. The guy said the patch would be $25. YES...$25. I looked at him and told him he was crazy. I would go across the street to Advance Auto and buy my own kit and fix it myself. He looked at me like I was crazy. I grew up around cars, got my keys back and went home. After I examined it more, it ended up being the stem. It came loose, and I got the pliers and twisted it. Cased closed. I fixed my own tire. The place across from Publix is a rip off! Do not use them. Either they are expensive or they think they can take advantage of women. I would like to think they are just over priced. Local gas stations will put a plug in tires of $8-10. A friend even told me of someone doing it for free!

Finished Painting!!!!!

After changing the paint color, we are finished! We did not know there are so many colors of white! My daughter wanted her room painted white. We go to Lowes and get white paint, come home and paint our first coat on Sunday. Monday morning it looked like a pale blue cement wall! So we go back to Lowes and buy our second color of "white". We paint our second coat of paint on Monday night. Tuesday we get up and she decide we need a third coat of paint because it does not look white enough. Last night we painted and finished our third and final coat of paint. I will spare you the details...lets just say that this week I am also taking a GT class and I have declared my daughter a neurotic perfectionist! (who needs to be medicated - and if my dear friend Lynn ever reads my blog, yes you did birth her. haha)

Her room looks great and will make a nice guest bedroom in two years when she is away at college. It is very classy and we are all pleased. Now the kitchen...

Summer Projects

Well summer is comming to an end, so must my projects. I started my bathroom back at christmas and I put the last accessory in place last night. (Yeah)

I started my kitchen project by buying new bar stools and a stove. Now to get new cabinets and counter tops. I think I may redesign the room not sure. This will be a major project hoped to be completed by Christmas. haha

But first I am going to buy paint to finish my daughter's room. She is working on a black and white room. We bought her a black bed a few months ago to start the project. This weekend we painted some furniture black and bought some decorative knobs. She buys accessories here and there so it will be a never ending project, but the idea is to get the painting done by next weekend. We are looking for Andy Whorol(sp?) pics for the wall and an art deco rug for the floor. Maybe we will get it done by the time she goes to college.

I am taking a class this week so this is going to be a challenge. Oh did I mentioned my husband wants to paint the front porch this week too! Anyone care to want to come over and help????

Restful week

Well, I am home from road trips and now resting. It was fun driving and seeing the sights, but it is nice to be home. I enjoy resting and just hanging out with my daughter. I have started a diet this week with working out. I have been walking each evening and swimming. We will see how it goes. I'd like to loose 10 pounds before school starts. Dieting is too much to think about, so I am trying to eat normal, but just less. I have watched so many info commercials that I wish you could loose weight by just watching. I'd be 50 pounds lighter. haha. Atkins works, but then I have to give up carbs! boo. My friend Matt was trying to gain weight, I'd gladly share mine. If only it was that easy.

Life at Kiawah...

We'll after 18 hours of driving to Washington and back, now the 3 hours trek to Kiawah is nothing! It is nice to finally be sitting on the beach with the Mp3 and listening to music. The beach is hot, but worth the view. The wild life is amazing. I have seen a gator, bob cat, deer, turtles, and a shark! I think when I retire this may be my spot.

Relaxing at the Ocean Course (Home of the Ryder Cup) is a favorite spot. It helps that they wait on you and spoil you.

My Drive through Georgetown (Washington, DC)...

So we left for Washington, DC to take Waverly to Georgetown University. We have fallen in love with this campus. It is beautiful. I'd like to spend more than one day here! We drove up to Washington, dropped her off, and back to SC we drove. It is an easy drive so I do recommend it, just not all in one day. Take time to walk the streets and enjoy the view. These pics were all taken from the car. haha

These are a few views from her dorm room. I secretely hope that she decides to attend Georgetown University. It is an amazing campus and great shops! Then maybe I can spend longer than a day in Washington...

Insurance companies....

I have heard horror stories about how insurance companies dictate our health care. Well I have experienced this first hand. On top of not being able to go to the emergency room yesterday, then I cannot get the proper medication or see a neurologist without their approval. I also learned that we are loosing good doctors due to high insurance premiums they have to pay due to people suing doctors. That could be another post! Why do people sue????

So now my fight begins with our "wonderful" state insurance. I now understand why people buy illegal drugs. They are easier to get! It takes an act of congress to get a simple migraine prescription. Anyone got any good drugs! haha

Emergency Room Visit

Ok, so this is my first attempt at blogging. I got this idea from a friend I work with. He bloggs almost everyday and I enjoy reading his blog so I thought I'd give it a try...

Today was not a good day for me. I started my morning in the emergency room with a cluster headache. For those of you who have ever had a headache, still have no conception of the pain. I have had a headache for two weeks and no amount of pain pills will get rid of the pain. Thus my trip to the emergency room. I sat there for two hours only to find out that the great state of SC insurance will not allow the emergency room to see me. I have to get a referal from my family doctor to go to the emergency room! Yes, they will not take me with state insurance. So, I get my wonderful husband to drive me all the way to Greenville to see my doctor. I then have to wait two hours in his office. By this time I was physically sick and about to go find my own drugs on the street. Finally I get in to see him and get some meds. I feel ok now, but have to go see a neuro. in two weeks. So for the next two weeks I will be on wonderful drugs to keep the pain a bay. By the way, there is nothing you can do for Cluster Headaches! So pray you never get one!
